Aged Care Clinic

Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment

Aged Care Clinic

Dr Dinesh Kannusamy offers a monthly Aged Care Clinic at Griffith Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr Kannusamy will focus on older people who are experiencing falls, weight loss, exhaustion, frailty, cognitive impairment and those needing medication review. Generally, these individuals will be greater than 80 years of age. Prior to the Geriatrician review, all patients will be scheduled for an appointment with an Occupational Therapist at Griffith Rehabilitation Hospital.

The Occupational Therapist will complete a Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and a MOCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment) if required. They will also complete a Malnutrition Screening Tool. Dietician referrals will be considered on a case by case basis after clinic appointment. Patients will be asked to have a relative, friend or carer complete a Dementia
Severity Rating Scale prior to review by Dr Kannusamy.

Dr Kannusamy was trained in South Australia in Geriatric medicine and completed his fellowship (FRACP) in 2012. He obtained his MRCP (UK) in 2006 and has 20 years of experience in the medical field. He is compassionate, realistic and holistic in his approach to geriatric medicine. At present Dr Kannusamy is a senior consultant at Flinders Medical Centre and a College examiner. He is also an associate lecturer at Flinders University where he is actively involved in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate medicine.

Geriatrician consults are bulk-billed.

There is a fee for the screening assessment with the Occupational Therapist.

Individuals attending the Aged Care Clinic may be eligible for funding support through private health insurance (extras cover) and Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
