Driving and Health ClinicFor clients who have a medical condition which may impact on their driving ability. This clinic involves assessment by a Rehabilitation Physician and an Occupational Therapist with advanced scope of practice in driver assessment.
Many factors can influence driving ability including accident, injury or illness resulting in physical, cognitive or sensory disabilities, psychiatric disorders, drug use and factors associated with ageing.
The Rehabilitation Physician and Occupational Therapist complete a comprehensive screening of medical fitness to drive. This assessment includes medical history, medications, driving history, driving goals, vision testing, physical and sensory skills, awareness of the driving environment and the client's own driving abilities.
Clients with limitations to their driving ability can be referred for driver rehabilitation, on road assessment, review at a later date or offered information and guidance about transport alternatives.
Documentation for the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure regarding licensing is completed by the clinical team.
