Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Exercise Program

Griffith Rehabilitation Hospital offers a specific exercise program for Type 2 Diabetes conducted by our Exercise Physiologists. The program offers an opportunity to improve your understanding and management of Type 2 Diabetes through a group based education and exercise program. The program includes an initial assessment and eight exercise sessions including education topics.

Participation in this program is accessed by referral from your Doctor and is fully funded by Medicare Benefits Schedule as part of the GP Management Plan.

Diabetes is associated with a number of other conditions which can impact on the quality of life of individuals. Optimal management of the condition reduces the risk.

Exercise has been shown to:

  • Improve control of blood glucose
  • Decrease risk of heart disease
  • Decrease body fat
  • Increase heart and lung fitness and improve physical function and independence

The program is conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.00pm to 5.00pm

  • All patients assessed by our Exercise Physiologists
  • 8 x 1 hour sessions of supervised exercise
  • Reports provided after assessment and completion
  • Assistance with options for maintaining ongoing exercise on completion
  • Improve control of blood glucose
  • Decrease risk of heart disease
  • Decrease body fat
  • Increase heart and lung fitness and improve physical function and independence
